i want 2 assemble a pc for gaming which should just come under 650$ to play games like gta 4 and other graphics intensive games at max settings on 1366x760 resolution. And i am considering a core i5 2400 as the processor as 2 my knowledge, performs better than amd's high end quad cores

I use a 2400 myself, and its fantastic.

I'd suggest the 2400, an H61M/U3S3 for SATA 3 and USB 3 options, 4 or 8 GB of DDR3-1333, a GTX460 or HD6850, a 1 TB hard drive, a Xkgmatek 400W PSU, Antec 430W, or Corsair 430W, and you will be good to go. should be about $550-600

well i wont be upgrading the monitor for a year or so, all i'm concerned is that my graphics card and processor should not get obsolete in near future for upcoming games. Moreover upgrading a cpu is more expensive than the gpu. So is my processor powerful enough to play upcoming games too? And what about the gpu?

In many cases that's not true. Core i5-2500K is $220 and Radeon HD 6970 is $340.
But ideally you want to buy a CPU to last 4 years and you can get GPU upgrades to keep up with newer games.

thanx for all ur suggestions. I think i will stick to hd 6770 for graphics. Umm..and for the cpu, i prefer core i5 2400 over new core i3 sandy bridge. But hey how does amd phenom x6 1075t performs in games. This hexa core processor has the same clock speed and turbo speed as the i5 i chose and is almost the same price. Which is better for gaming?

I got an i5 2500k at MicroCenter today for 179.99

Not sure it how long it's going, but it's an awesome deal. Even going to the store and paying tax it was less than 200.

i know that even core i3 2100 is very good for gaming but upcoming games will use more threads and more cores. Hence, the core i5 2400(i wont be overclocking,so i left the 2500k). And core i3 dont have turbo boost. My budget doesnt allow me to buy an aftermarket cooler for overclocking

my suggested $650 build:

i5-2400: $190 (Newegg), or $149 if you have a microcenter nearby
AS Rock H61M/U3S3: $75
Mushkin 4 GB DDR3-1333: $26
Samsung F3 1TB drive: $60
Xigmatek 400W 80+ Bronze PSU: $35
DVD Drive: $19
Rosewill R102 case: $30
Rosewill Blue LED 120mm fan: $8
Masscool 80mm fan: $3
EVGA 01G-P3-1460-KR GTX 560: $190
