PC unusable while downloading

Hi. So whenever I download a game through steam/origin/uplay with 20-35MB/s or a torrent through qbittorent at high speed I can't use anything that requires an internet connection anymore .. can't access google due to "This site can't be reached / dns_probe_finished_bad_config" or steam store or anything .. is this normal?

with a bad internet connection, yes.

Limit your Steam/Torrent downloads to about 70% of your available speed leaving you the other 30% for browsing.

If you swamp your link with lots of connections then even small packets might not make it. 35MBs isn't close to 1Gbs. If you're on wifi it's likely swamping that link or your ISP isn't delivering 1Gbs. If you are on wired then you might want to try a few things like testing from the modem or checking what all settings you turned on. Most routers can only handle basic NAT+DHCP @ 1Gbs. So if you turned on anything else it can cripple it.

With no type of shaping you won't have a good experience trying to download and also load web pages or play games. Throttle your download clients.

Torrent will swam whatever available bandwidth if it isn't controlled.

So directly answering your question, is this normal? hell ya. Fortunately, u have power to rein in the kids.
