I built my computer 5 years ago roughly and this is my question: if I upgrade the video card, will I get a significant boost in performance? (Or am I wasting my time with this old rig)

Specs:
mobo: 750i SLI with PCIE 2x16
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 888MB
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
650 wat PSU
4 gigs ram (windows xp only registers 3 GB of it)

I could get another card and SLI or upgrade to top of the line PCIE 2x16? Or... dont waste my time?

Thank you

Solution
If you get a high end PCIe with that stuff this is what will happen:

The left is the card with current technology. The right one is the card, running well, and then it hits your current stuff...

That's what I thought unfortunately. I am surprised by the quick responses on this site, very much appreciate all the answers.

This is what I am thinking of getting with the money I can afford

Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core
EVGA SuperClocked 02G-P4-2662-KR GeForce GTX 660 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

and some other essentials... all for about 800. Newegg of course :D

This look decent for the up and coming? Thanks again gentlemen.
