Hey guys, I have a question. My PC is a tad bit slow, and thus I want to upgrade. Unfortunately, I don't have the money to do a full on upgrade of the motherboard and CPU etc. but I do have 100 bucks or so to spend. I was thinking about an SSD, but I have a rather old motherboard so I don't really know if I will be able to take full advantage of an SSD. Also I was thinking about upgrading to skylake, or maybe even kaby lake, so I can just save the 100 until I can afford that. My current CPU could also be upgraded to an i7 2600 for 60 dollars, but I doubt that it will be beneficial due to my plans to upgrade. Here are my specs, so if I missed something, you can add something to the list.

CPU: i5 2400
Cooler: Stock cooler
MOBO: Asus P8H61-M
RAM: 8gb ddr3 1333mhz
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1060 WindForce OC 3GB
HDD: Western Digital 500GB Blue WD5000AAKS
PSU: 460W Cooler Master Power Supply

Thanks in regards, Knaffils.

Well the thing is with even a 250 SSD drive, you could move that over into your new build if you move to Sky/Kaby and it would be worth it and I wouldn't worry about bottle necking the sata even if its older again you can just use it when your ready to build.

I would just upgrade the RAM...

Some PC Games actually require a minimum of 12GB Ram..

Hey Deverick, unfortunately, in my country 500gb SSD's become a little more pricy than that. They go for 150 instead of 85 for 250gb... Also, I was thinking about that if I were to upgrade to Sky/Kaby Lake in the future to go for an M.2 drive. Thanks for your answer though! :)

I thought 8gb would be enough for gaming. I'm not doing any kind of video editing, nor do I multitask often. I just have a game running and Discord running in the background.

8GB is enough for now but games will eventually require more. I would worry about the RAM upgrade when you are ready to upgrade your base platform. I would get a 256GB ssd for your OS and some games and use your current drive for storage.

Hey there, thanks for your reply. I am a bit doubtful about SSD's, because in my country they are quite expensive. I would be able to buy a 250gb drive, but I don't know if that would be worth it. Also I don't know if the SATA connections on my mobo would bottleneck it. And if I were to upgrade to Sky/Kaby Lake I would buy an M.2 drive, so wouldn't that make the SSD a bit worthless? Thanks though! :)
