PC upgrade help

Hi

I don't know much about computers.
I have a compaq presario sr5350f

I want to upgrade to a quad core PC.
If I want to, do I just have to buy a new CPU and motherboard? or do I have to start from scratch? I would like to keep the 2GB ram and graphic card I already have for now and upgrade them later.

Do you have any suggestions for any parts I should buy?

I'd say let people know your budget and main use (gaming, email, surfing, netflix, office production apps).

Other than that, you will probably need ALL new parts, but that doesn't mean it has to be expensive. Look up $300 budget gaming pc for ideas on youtube to get started. Linus Tech Tips has a good vid

No, no point in trying to upgrade that system, its dated pretty bad. A scratch new build would be better.

What is your budget?

Gaming? Streaming? Editing? Or just normal office use/browsing internet?

I am mostly using the PC for 3D applications and video and image editing.
My budget is $300-450 Canadian
