Hello. So i have got $850 nz around $550 usd and im going to upgrade my cpu and graphics card. At the moment i have a fx 4300 and a sapphire 260x but there seem to be many options to upgrade to. Should i swap to intel?

Solution
I still recommend a six/eight core CPU for AMD, since their products aren't as good as Intel's, but for the GPU, try to find something that will match your budget after getting the CPU and its cooler. Nvidia or AMD are good, so pick the one that matches what you want the most and that has the best reviews.
If you want to save on the CPU, get a six core, you'll be able to get a bit of a better GPU then. (Like the 970's).

You could go for cheaper 970's or Older 770's, which are basically the same as 970's but a bit older. Also much cheaper now.

If you are not willing to change motherboard and keep more money for the CPU and GPU, get another AMD Processor, but Intel ones are better. The graphics card is up to you, but if your case is small, a 960 would do better since it doesn't generate as much heat.

These processors are good AMD solutions for you.
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd8320frhkbox (FX 8320)
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd8350frhkbox (FX 8350)
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd8370frhkbox (FX 8370) <- Best option with GPU.

With that budget, you could even get a better video card, like a 970.
These ones should be good for you.
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx970gaming4g (MSI Gaming4G TwinFrozr)
https://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-04gp42978kr (EVGA Superclocked ACX 2.0) (It's shorter, but a bit more expensive)

If you get those make sure your power supply can handle it, of course.

All the GPU's will fit in your case, no worries about that. Your power supply should be fine, as long as it is atleast 80+ Certified. I recommend buying the MSI 970 and FX 8370. To cool the processor, the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 fits in your case and will respect your budget if you follow the above recommendations.

How about this: http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/p/CJrMLk

Could swap the R9 380 for the gtx 960 but the 380 does perform better.

I'm not sure about how much this is for you, but if it's over budget I recomment cutting on the GPU, since the CPU is already quite limited. Here's what I'd recommend in this situation.

For the cooling I still recommend the Cooler Master Hyper TX3.
