I'm not the biggest AMD guy, but I hear that FX-9000 series are pretty much the same. The most you can do is upgrade the GPU and probably the RAM. It's a shame they don't mention the PSU.

If you ahve $500, why not sell that thing and use the extra money and build a decent computer with a decent upgrade path?

EDIT: Just seen where it said power supply 400w. However, that is not enough to do much of anything.

-CPU Cooler to overclock that 8320.
-Increased RAM.
-SSD for OS.
-GTX 1060 6gb for GPU upgrade.
-Much better quality PSU for GPU upgrade and CPU overclock.

The only thing you need to do is verify the case can house this cooler, GPU & PSU.

***I would actually hold off on upgrading RAM as 8gb is still plenty. You'll want to upgrade parts which then you can pair with a newer CPU/MB/RAM (DDR4) when its time to upgrade those. By the time your ready for a CPU upgrade Kaby-Lake (Intel) & AMD Zen (AM4) should be released and should offer a significant performance increase over that FX.***
