[SOLVED] PC Upgrade Help

Hi all,

Need help on parts for upgrading my old Z400 workstation. Specs are:

Motherboard: HP 0AE4h
CPU: Intel Xeon W3580
GPU: GeForce GTX 960
PSU: DPS-475CB-1A (475W)
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB - 7,200rpm
SDD: Kingston HyperX Fury 120GB

Was thinking of upgrading the CPU to a Xeon 3690, getting 2x8GB RAM, then maybe a better graphics card and larger SSD. Is it worth it, or should I just get a new computer? Price is not a big problem, I just want to make sure I'm not wasting money.

Honestly I would just upgrade the platform to even something like a used Ryzen 1600 or 2600 , B350 or B450 mobo and DDR4 RAM. The CPUs would be around 50-70 for a 1600, 70-100 for a 2600 and the mobos would probably be both around 40-60 USD.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I realise it's still an old processor, but I'd read somewhere that Xeon's are better suited to video production, audio editing & the like. Since I've recently needed to start doing these things from home, I thought a better Xeon would be best for a workstation/gaming hybrid.

Could I ask why you recommend AMD over Intel?

Better price to performance then Intel. The Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series both lag behind Intel in the single core gaming performance but the new Ryzen 3000 is basically the same, but still come in cheaper.

Also Intel keep having security issues from the physical design of their chips, since basically every Intel over the last decade is the same architecture.
