Hello there Tom's hardware community! I've had my PC for about 5 years now. I believe it is time to upgrade. Only gaming I Do is World of Warcraft. I may venture in other games if I have a good system for it. Unfortunately My current setup doesn't allow me to play at Max details. I would like you guys to recommend me some new gaming hardware!

My Current Set up

CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz Haswell
Motherboard: G1.Sniper Z87 - Can my cpu be oc with this board and reach good result?
RAM: G.Skill RipjawsX 4GB x 2 (F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL) If I keep my cpu is the
SSD: ADATA SP550 ATA Device 240Gb
HDD: Seagate 3.5" SATA-II 3.0Gb/s 750Gb
PSU: Corsair CX600M
GPU: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7800 Series GDDR5 2048 MB - This needs an upgrade for sure!
Monitor: I currently play on LG IPS FULLHD I think it's 5ms
Current Resolution 1920x1080 pixels

Upgrade?
Is my cpu still viable?? I Heard it is a good CPU to OC this is why I bought it in the first place but never really played with it. I always tough my motherboard and ram would stop me since it was a budget motherboard and budget ram I got.

NEW Build?
If you set up a new build for me please recommend around the 8700k please. with in mind that I will OC it.

In the new build I want it all.
New CPU, Mobo, ram, M.2 drive SSD, video card, Case, fans EVERYTHING lol....

Should i Venture in 1440p ? or stick with 1080p?

BUDGET: 3000$
Hopefully I get good feedback this upgrade should be happening this weekend.

I plan to shop at Neweggs.
thank you.

Not true, WoW has gotten better about multithreading, and BfA is recommending an i7 4770. I would still go with a better GPU, and get a better quality power supply. Those CX 600w are well known for having low quality capacitors that tend to fail under load/heat.

Your budget does allow for a new rig, but I don't think it is overly necessary, unless you really want to get a more modern setup, features wise. For the sake of giving you a max budget build, I threw one together in PCPP.

If you are not after over 100FPS, just get a new GPU and upgrade your monitor.
More RAM wouldn't hurt as well.

Overclocking is not a necessity in 2018 and is not as rewarding as it was in the past. you get extra 10% performance in best case scenario for much more money. few years ago you could get extra 25-40%. that was worth the hassle.

Totally agree, you don't really need a new build.

More RAM and a new Graphics card for sure will put some pep into your current rig.

Also look at a new 500GB SSD depending on age of current one as they don't last forever.

If you have your heart set on a new computer. Look through the CPU and Graphics articles on this site to see what you really need.
You will get more bang for your buck if you look at an AMD solution, spend more on Graphics rather than cpu.
Once your CPU is good enough, your limit will be due to GPU.

Would be in your best interest to consider selling the i5 and use that money toward an i7 4790k if you wish to carry your system into the next couple of years.

Multi threaded games are here and continue to increase and if you get a beefy gpu, an i5 4 core will bottleneck. So if not a complete rebuild with at least a 6 core cpu then the next best thing is take advantage of Hyperthreading when you can rather than being physically limited.

The only game I play is Word of Warcraft and it is not a multi threaded game it uses at best 2 core.

Case is really hard.
Fractal's Define C / Meshify C or Define R6 if you want something bigger.
Phanteks ENTHOO PRO M TEMPERED GLASS is a great option too.

For WoW, I'd say you can get a GTX 1080 + 34" 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor. If you serious about 3K budget, take a look at this one:

OMG that monitor is beautiful! WOW.. so tempting! But I will ned a 1080 ti to run this :)

Need - no, want - maybe. I have a monitor with same resolution, just a bit lower refresh rate. GTX 1070 does the job for the most part. I mostly play shooters like DOOM/Quake Champions/CoD etc.
GTX 1080 (or overclocked 1070ti ) will do the job very well.
the 1070 Ti is starting at 500$, 1080 at ~560$ while 1080ti at ~900$. the later should be somewhat cheaper.

Personally, I think you would be fine with swapping to a 4790k, with the case, cooling, PSU, GPU, and monitor listed in my build, given what you are wanting to play.

Difference between these 2 ?

SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series M.2 2280 250GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-N6E250BW

or

SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series 2.5" 250GB SATA III 3D NAND Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-76E250B/AM

is one faster than the other? I think not right ? DO I got pro over Evo ?

your MB does not have M.2 port.
they are the same drive performance wise, just different form factor.
anyway, you should look at at least 500GB drives. they are marginally more expensive than 250GB drives.
And consider Crucial MX300 or MX500. same performance for less money.

I'd get a 1TB drive for ~250$. well, I actually did it and the life so much sweeter with everything like loading games/game levels or even downloads. HDDs are the thing of the past.
Just for example my internet is 1Gbps, with well over 100MB/s actual download speeds. HDD have problem to sustain such write speed if there is anything else. Even if you don't have such internet connection atm, you will pretty soon.

You are helping me so much right now.. Unreal!

I will stick with my cpu, upgrade the ram. the video card and a case. For my motherboard and with intention to oc the cpu what ram would you suggest? Ill buy at https://www.newegg.ca/ or www.canadacomputers.com

Can you pick out 16gb of Ram that will flow nice with my board and cpu with OC in mind.

My board supports : Support for DDR3 3000(O.C.) / 2933(O.C.) / 2800(O.C.) / 2666(O.C.) / 2600(O.C.) / 2500(O.C.) / 2400(O.C.) / 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1866(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 MHz memory modules

Lots of detail do I want some ddr3 3000?? or go lower.

Video card I wonder if I should go 1060 6gb or 1070 ti also what brand to pick what name. I heard they are all the same.

hard drive you said Crucial MX300 or MX500?
https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820156174

Ill find a case and probably ask if I should buy or not.

I will save a lot of money with upgrading and will new build in a year or 2.

I'm a bit confused. you have 4 sticks of 2GB ?
Haswell (4th gen) memory controller does not really scale beyond 2400MHz. And any decent 1600-1866 kit can do 2133-2400Mhz with decent timings.
so no need to get crazy and invest too much into a platform that will be replaced in a couple of years. I'd say get new MB/CPU/RAM when DDR5 is released. probably late 2019 early 2020.
so I'd just get a 2x4GB kit https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428 and replace 2 of the existing ones. 12GB is more than enough and 90$ , even CAD, are 90$ that can buy some booze XD. well, actually invested in better monitor or better GPU.

The GPU choice totally depends on the monitor. if you keep existing one for the next 2-3 years, 1060 6GB is good.
if you do go 1440p or better 1440p ultra wide, 1070Ti or better 1080 is more rational choice. As for specific model, decide which one you want performance wise and people will be happy to suggest options. basically anything with decent cooler for the lowest price. Personally, I prefer EVGA for the excellent service and most flexible warranty terms. And they do very good engineering and stress test every SC/FTW card at the factory.

As for the cases, already mentioned:
https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352072&cm_re=meshify_c-_-11-352-072-_-Product
https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811854042&cm_re=phanteks_enthoo_pro_m-_-11-854-042-_-Product

Another thing that worth upgrading in your system is the PSU. If you buy a decent 650w unit it can serve you well for some 10 years easily.

If you want to mess a bit, selling 4670K and get 4770K or 4790K. it will cost you about 50-70$, but will allow higher and more stable FPS.

Actually everything you buy now beside the RAM will be reusable for the next upgrade :)
