I feel like my CPU is peaking quite a bit in games and have shut down several background software to prevent it. For GPU, I think I'm doing "ok" (that was my last upgrade from a GTX 1070)You are kind of balanced now. Is there something you’re noticing that’s prompting the upgrade or just itching to upgrade? 6700xt should be ok for 1440p but a higher class card could do it better. On the other hand you could hold onto the gpu a bit longer and upgrade the platform.

What to upgrade first? I'm running in 1440P.
+ 1You could always go new platform. I mean you could pick up a 5700/5800x3d but on the other hand if you’re spending 200+ on a cpu then how much to go full upgrade? If you wanted a value upgrade for 2 extra cores, you could go 5700x for under 200.
If you live near microcenter they have a 7800x3d deal with a board and 32gb of ram for 500. They have the same deal with the 7700x for 400. So a couple of options.
that links a 7800xt M8Have a look, the 7900 gre actually matches close to the 4070 super.

Though I just saw this 7900xt at my local Microcenter’s site for 539. I think if it was me I’d roll with that.
