Question PC very slow despite good gear

Hello everyone! I really need help, I custom built this PC and it used to run games smoothly and flawlessly, PUBGM at 60fps and now it runs it at 12 fps, fortnite before 300 fps and now barely 30. Please help.

Cpu cooler? Check to see if it still runs? Old thermal paste hasn't dried out?

Regarding thermal paste that may have dried out: I have an i7 870 (since 2011/when it was modern) and I didn't replace the thermal paste until a year or so ago. I have followed instructions for the AS5, and tried twice, but the temps are worse. They weren't bad before though, huge mistake. So imo, the thermal paste wouldn't have dried out, unless there are some very different operating conditions (I do put my pc to sleep frequently (set to 10 min), so there are a number of heating/cooling cycles).

I did scan for malware using Malwarebytes and found one malware, and even after that it didn't work. I tried everything and only 20 percent boost is what I have. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/25651068

Did you look in task manager to see which process is using your CPU Cycles?

Check your idle temperatures using HWmonitor.
You should see 10-15c. over ambient if your cooler is mounted well and functioning.

If you see much higher, it is likely that your cpu cooler has come loose and needs to be remounted.

I did. Discord, Instagram, FL Studio and things like that use it up.

Minimum is 90 C and Maximum is 100 C...

That's pretty toasty temperatures. Which CPU heatsink/fan do you use? Do you have case fans?

I just opened it and found out that they was a extra wire that was interfering with the fan, and that the fan was loose. I pressed the bolts that were on the corners of the fans and it's pretty stuck now and I put the wires in the corner of the case. https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/25755403 is my benchmark now but still. It's not decent at all. I got this PC on November 18 2019. I guess I should still reapply thermal paste.

It's fairly standard for a custom-built gaming PC to use some kind of aftermarket heatsink and fan for the CPU and for the computer case to have 2x 120mm or 140mm air intake fans at the front and one air exhaust fan at the rear of the case.

This allows for long gaming sessions, as the CPU and/or GPU won't thermal throttle and reduce performance.

2 things with your latest result.
1)You have really high activity going on in the background eating up resources. What else were you running at the time?

2)Your storage drive is almost full.
I'd also suggest you check your HDD's health as well. If you don't already have the software for it, you can download and run Crystal Disk Info: https://crystalmark.info/redirect.php?product=CrystalDiskInfoInstaller

which is about the first release bios according to the Asus site. Latest bios is "Version 3602 from2018/04/12" it would be good to update that.

you use the 4th gen so might be good to download that tool and use that to update to the latest bios.

Haven't used this so you probably need to download the latest bios too too make this work.

maybe with the tool you will be able to search for the bios ,but would imo be good to have it on the pc already so you can choose the folder in wich it is (unpack it!).

Can just try and flash the bios via the tool there (ASUS EZ Flash 2 ) since already using the 4th gen and the bios update tool should be used before using 4th gen. Would make things easier and flashing from the bios is always to be preferred.

You have a problem with your cpu cooler.
At idle, the minimum temperature should be 10-15c. over ambient.
That will be 32-37c, in a normal room.
Perhaps the cooler is loose, a fan not working.
What is the make/model of your cooler?
Is it an air cooler, or a liquid cooler?
If you do not know, post a picture of it.

An Intel processor monitors it's temperature, and if it senses a dangerous temperature it will slow down.
That temperature is about 100c.
Since you saw 100c. it means that you have throttled and the cpu has slowed down.

The cooler issue needs to be fixed.
