Well, it all comes down to preferences and function, for instance:
Xbox and Playstation, though they can't really fault it for the huge difference between the new generation and the old generation, are essentially completely abandoning the 360 and PS3 for new games. Which kinda sucks speaking as a long time fan of Xbox that I can't really justify jumping for the sake of playing 2 games (Halo 5 and Batman: Arkham Knight)
Now, I'll be building a PC, that I'll be gaming on games I've missed playing (rts and mmo), a bunch of titles I want to play, and I'll also be using a second touch screen monitor for other reasons and purposes. The best thing about it is I'll have plenty of room and freedom to upgrade according to my needs and wants and gets me into learning about the technology itself and what makes my system tick. For instance, it appears that XboxOne and PS4 are running the same processor but PS4s one seems to be better.
I don;t know, after playing Halo series from the beginning, seemed like a deal breaker for me to miss out on 5 because of a huge generation gap between 360 and One. I can do so much more with a PC.
