PC wakes itself up when sleep mode activates

When my PC starts to 'fall asleep' it seems to 'wake itself up' and the topside fans (2x CoolerMaster 140mm case fans) loudly ramp up to full RPM for a few seconds. Essentially, both of my monitors will darken as the computer reaches the threshold for automatic sleep mode, but several seconds later the fans will ramp up and the monitors will turn back on. It's almost as though the computer is fighting the sleep process. After 3 or 4 reiterations of this 'fighting,' the PC will eventually fall asleep. I assume that this is some process or controller preventing the computer from sleeping, but I'm not sure how to identify the proper settings to manage the issue. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I just got a new pc a few months ago and it does the same thing. I have no solution to this unfortunately, but it is nice to see I am not not alone on this ;)
