My pc goes to standby and within a couple of minutes it wakes.

I did powercfg -lastwake and got: \device\harddiskvolume3\windows\system32\svchost.exe (wuauserv)

When I look at the monitor after it wakes, there are no pop-ups.

If I am sitting on the couch reading a book, it happens like a dozen times and gets annoying. Any help would be great. I refuse to update to Windows 10, is it possible that Windows 10 updater is trying to intimidate me like a mafioso thug? ;)

Solution
-Start menu -Control panel -Hardware and Sound -Power options -Change plan settings -Change advanced power settings -Sleep -Allow wake timers -Disable -Apply

AND

Go to Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update. Double-click Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update, and then click Enabled.

AND

Go to regedit:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

Change DisableOSUpgrade value to 1.

Reboot.

Yes, I use extended display so I can turn on a movie on the TV while using the PC. It has been setup that way for two years but this problem has been ocurring for... Maybe 3-4 months? I didn't really keep track when it started.

I got this ever since I upgraded to windows 10. Yours may be a different issue, since you're on windows 7, however this might help you:

Open event viewer and go to windows logs > System. Scroll down to the approximate time your pc woke up and look for a power-troubleshooter entry under the source column. It should say something like this:

The system has returned from a low power state.

Sleep Time: ‎2016‎-‎04‎-‎19T01:17:20.104067200Z
Wake Time: ‎2016‎-‎04‎-‎19T04:44:31.972481500Z

Below these few lines it will tell you the wake source.

Okay, I have verified that the windows 10 updater is the cause of the problem. Any idea how to disable it? (Without installing Windows 10?)

Windows update client. I am not sure how to deactivate. It is listed as automatic update.
