Hello! Names nick and I think I boned myself here.

System specs:

Asus b350-f mobo
16gb Dominator DDR4 @ 3000mhz
EVGA Gtx 1070 FTW
500gb crucial ssd
Corsair cx750m psu
Windows 10 64

upgrading from a i5 7600 to a i5 9600k
Came home to install the new processor took the old one out
Cleaned up the heat sink surface
Popped 9600k in, added rice grain sized amount of paste
Checked connectors
Hit power and nothing. Pc did not want to even power on.
Popped old one back in , this time it powered on but no image was displaying
My thoughts are that I screwed up by getting the wrong processor, bent the pins or both. I don’t know if I can upload photos but I do have pictures and it seems that maybe the pins are bent there so small it’s hard for me to tell.

Thanks for the help gents. Don’t shake your heads to hard.

Solution
You can first try to swap the 7600 back with the old motherboard
(If you still have it, and see if it at least boots into bios)

Then, with your B365 board, try boot without the GTX1070 and use only 1 stick of ram and see if it posts
(Also, try once more with another stick of ram if not posting).
If it still not posting, then most likely there is some issue with your board.

Btw u also mentioned about putting the old CPU back in (So I assume u are pairing 9600K with B365)
If you did this, the system definitely wouldnt boot as 7th gen i5 is not compatible with B365.

I highly doubt you have a B350 board as those are AMD AM4 boards, likely a B250 since you are running a 7th gen Intel CPU. Problem is the B250 only supports 6th and 7th gen Intel cpus. For the 9600k(9th gen) you need a Intel 300 series chipset(H310,B360, B365, Z370 or Z390). In short the 9600k is not compatible with your motherboard.

A few things wrong here:

  1. B350 is an AMD chipset, not compatible with Intel CPUs.
  2. There is no chipset that exists that supports both an i5-7600 and an i5-9600K.

So, either way your motherboard does not support the i5-9600K. Even though i5-7600 and i5-9600K both use LGA 1151 sockets, they are not supported across chipsets.

Okay I typod the mobo I meant to say b365 f but even then it is still the wrong board so I’m assuming your right. But now that I need a different mobo for the 9600k (I thought it was going to work) I’m wondering why the old processor is not working and it won’t boot.

Appreciate it gonna try the ram trick

That can't be correct either as you said the old CPU was a 7600. The i5 7600 does not work on the B365. The i5 7600 and the i5 9600k are not compatible with the same chipsets.

So an update for those interested. Just recapping, put in new 9600k thinking that it would be compatible. It wasn’t. Then I put in 7600 and I somehow bent 2 pins on the mobo hence why it wouldn’t start up with the original processor. Ordered a new board that is compatible with a 9th gen processor. In short I didn’t do my research and goofed. Thanks for all the help gentlemen.

B365 is not compatible with the i5-7600. How were you running the i5-7600? The B365 should be compatible with the i5-9600K.
