Hi. I have an old Compaq Presario(sr5210nx) and it will not turn on. When I plug it in the wall outlet the power supply light is green and slowly blinks. I figured it must be the power supply. I was going to buy a psu from amazon, but the wattage is 480 and the psu in the Compaq max wattage is 250. My question is will the psu from Amazon fit my pc or will it cause a fire?

Solution
Whatever you do, DO NOT connect an adapter that has a higher VOLTAGE than your original. Higher voltage can cause serious problems with the machine.

Kudos,
Albert
difference in wattage is not normally an issue, its more a case of there will be 480w available for the system to use, not so much that the psu is trying to force 480w into the system. the amazon ad says its compatible with your system... then you should be fine, if it doesnt, claim the money back from amazon.
