PC Won\'t Recognize a new USB Mouse

I am currently using a Logitech USB wireless mouse on my old and raggedy Dell desktop that is about 10 years old. I bought a new Logitech USB mouse with unifying receiver and the computer will only recognize the old mouse and not the new one. The old one is worn out and not working properly, that's the reason for the new one. Is there any reason why the cpu won't recognize the new mouse? I've tried other USB ports, and nothing. Mouse didn't come with any software, just said plug in and go!

You are probably not using a new enough O/S for it to recognize the newer mouse and load the default driver. Didn't the new mouse come with a driver?

The new mouse didn't come with anything other than the mouse and receiver. I will try the website hairystuff sent and see if that works.

Windows 7. As mentioned, the computer is OLD!
