We've bought an SAS card,

This one specifically: LSI SAS 9212 4i4e
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816118133

For the sole purpose of us needing a SAS interface so that we can connect the LTO Tape Drive we bought so we can begin to back-up our hundreds of drive stacked up on storage. The problem is once I installed the card the PC won't boot at all. It doesn't even post, it powers up and the fans start spinning and after a while it shuts down and powers on again just like that.

If I remove it from the pcie slot it works just fine, the problem happens when I install the pcie sas card. Here are our pc specs if it helps

CPU: Intel i7-6700k
GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 980Ti
RAM: 4 x 8GB DDR4 Ram
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170x Gaming 7
PSU: Seasonic X1050

Thank you guys.

I didn't ask but I assume that you are using the PCIe x16 slot that runs at x8 and not the one that runs at x4 (it should be slot 2 and is labeled PCIEX8). That will drop your video card in slot 1 to x8 also but it can't be helped.

Since there is no specific Windows 10 driver, I would first try the Windows 8.1 driver and if necessary install it in compatibility mode. My understanding was that in W10 the card *should* be plug and play but that doesn't always work. Immediately after install on my HBA/RAID cards I update the firmware and management suite from what is usually the original version, so once it gets running you may want to check those.

It may also be worth contacting LSI tech support by starting a service ticket using...
While your motherboard is not on the compatibility list, I would be a bit surprised if it is not compatible since that card works with older Gigabyte Z68 boards.

I would insure that the motherboard bios is updated to the most recent and install the latest LSI driver from HERE and then insert the card and see if it will boot. If not start a service ticket with Broadcom at their support portal HERE.

Hi I noticed there are a lot of download links from the website you provided, what would you recommend I download for a 64bit Windows 10 machine? Thanks

It may also be worth contacting LSI tech support by starting a service ticket using that link for their advice on the issue if this doesn't work.

I almost exclusively use Adaptec and I know that they are always very helpful, although sometimes I end up telling them about solving issues that they didn't know about.
