Hi, I recently installed a new power supply in a PC because the old one was broken. After plugging everything in it asks me to reboot with a boot device. I plugged the hard drive into an external enclosure connected to a working PC and it is fully recognized, I can browse through the files, etc. The drive has Windows 10 on it so it should be bootable. Any ideas?

So apparently the problem PC which we'll assume is a desktop PC is not your PC, but one you built for some other person, right?

So after a year of the Win OS booting & functioning without problems (after you apparently discovered the PSU was defective and replaced it), the owner recently informed you that the system doesn't boot. And you've obviously confirmed this as shown by the screenshot you submitted..

Since you've installed the problem HDD as a USB external drive in another PC and apparently have been able to access its contents as a secondary drive in that system, you've concluded the HDD is non-defective - a reasonable conclusion. STILL...it would be best if you would test the drive with a HDD diagnostic program available from...

I haven't messed with any of the data on the drive, so I'd be surprised if that were the case. How would I go about reinstalling it?

Maybe we should ask the OP whether he's INTERNALLY installed the HDD that presumably contains a viable Win 10 OS - one that he installed on the PC?

The OP states he's connected the problem drive as a USB external drive to another PC and is able to detect the data on the drive. So what does that prove?

We'll assume the drive is non-defective. The question is how was the Win 10 OS installed on that drive in the PC? He states the PC "asked him" to reboot with a boot device. Did he do so using the HDD that presumably contains the OS? All we know is that he connected the HDD as a USB external drive to another PC.

I installed the HDD internally. Over a year ago I installed Win 10 on it and it was working fine until the owner reported it wasn't. It wouldn't boot at all and I determined that the power supply was dead and replaced it. Now it boots, but I get this screen:

I've tried that already. It recognizes the hard drive is connected but can't boot from it

Capiche?

So what troubleshooting steps have you undertaken to diagnose the problem? Tried any of the repair features available for the Win 10 OS? Considered a fresh-install of the OS if that's a practical option, including using a different HDD or SSD for the install? What?
