PC won't boot past mobo splash screen

Out of the blue my brothers pc won't boot past the mobo's splash screen. After countless times turning it on and off we managed to get it to boot up one time. However, the problem is happening again today and we can't seem to fix it. I've tried booting with different ram, unplugged hdd, unplugged cd drive. Anyone have ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix it??

Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3

try another sata cable to hdd and board to see if it detect the drive and do you have to play with psu switch to have it boot .

I will try another sata cable, not sure what you mean about the psu switch?

Are you just talking bout the power switch on the back of the psu? It's an EVGA 600B, and Mobo is Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3
