Okay so I have a 240gb ssd with my os on it and i installed that ( I cloned it ) onto a m.2 and set that as my boot. The ssd hasn't been formatted yet as i need to go through everything but i got the m.2 working with the os on it. The cloning never worked so i just reinstalled windows. I was testing out the ssd in another rig and when I took it out and then booted the pc it wouldn't actaully get into windows even when booting from the m.2. Its weird as i know the m.2 has the os on it and i changed it in the bios but still wouldnt boot without the ssd in it

Solution

1. You did the clone incorrectly.

2. You installed the OS with both drives connected. Often, this results in the boot partition ending up on the second drive. Nothing you did...

1. You did the clone incorrectly.

2. You installed the OS with both drives connected. Often, this results in the boot partition ending up on the second drive. Nothing you did to select that...it just happens.
Remove that drive, and no boot for you.

3. Possible fix:
Disconnect ALL other drives.
Boot up from your OS install USB.
Run the Repair function.
This may (or may not) fix it.
