So i got i bought a z179a m7 from msi 3 weeks ago, bought 16gb coirsair ram, and everything worked fine. But 3 days ago i decided i would try 32gb instead for my 3d work, and ordered 32gb ripjaws 4. But i can't get all 4 ( 4x8 ) to work at the same time, it´s just a black screen, with every fan running as it should. If i remove 1 stick, no matter from what dimm i remove. Checked with my 16gb from corsair, so i was sure i didn't damage any of it, but they still boot without any problems.
So i wen't back to 3x8 and checked it with some games, and works without any problems, so i decided to try xmp. But got the usual "previous overclock failed".

So to sum it up, here what i've tryed.

- Checked every dimm with new and old ram, everything is fine.
- Checked all sticks, no problem.
- Checked with Memtest86+, completed with no errors.
- After some searched i've tryed to up ram voltage, and sa. Think i wen't up to around 1.2 sa, ram was at 1.3 at it's highest. But haven't tried 1.3 and 1.2 at the same time.
- I've set everything back to default, clear cmos etc. and still won't boot with 4.

If it's error codes my motherboard writes when it isn't displaying temperature, i may have something to get closer to the solution. It's goes through them really fast when but think it's - 0d, 3E, and 4c, but the last one is there when it works, but stops as soon as my screens turn on.

I'm a bit lost at the minute, and can't seem to find a solution. Hope someone got a answer for this, first time i have to ask for help with pc assembly 🙁.

Thanks in advance

What's the DRAM data rate? 2400,2666? Might need a bit of an OC on the CPU for 4 sticks. Might need additional voltage to the MC. Might just be all the sticks don't want to play. It's not a good idea to mix DRAM from different packages, there's no guarantee they will play. Best to get a single package of the full amount you want, that way the sticks in the package have been tested to play nice

I seem to have the same problem with this board.

Same board and problem, also the m7, except it won't take more than (2x8) 16 of my 2666 RAM (4x8 bought as a pack). Have swapped dimms around, upped cpu and ram voltage, oc'd the cpu.. no luck.

Did you happen to find a solution to this? I'd be very interested to know what to do.

I've encountered such a problem when trying to use 4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866 with my Asus P8Z77-V motherboard. I've down-clocked the RAM to 1600, and that made it rock solid. BTW, IDK about MSI, but Asus does have a memory compatibility PDF where it lists the ram model and whether it is compatible as 2, 3, or 4 stick configuration.
Also, I'm not sure that 24GB (3 sticks) is a better configuration than 16GB (2 sticks). I'd run CPU-Z to check if the ram is working at dual-channel mode with 3 sticks. If it reverted to single mode (because of the odd number of sticks), it could be that the resulting performance is lower than the added benefit of an additional 8GB.
