I was trying to help a friend who got caught up with care-pro who wanted 249.95 to remove a virus on her laptop. I thought it was a scam and ran Malwarebytes and quarantined 972 pup files. when I restarted, it would not reboot. Is there anything I can do to try and fix this??? Thanks for any help.

$250 to fix a laptop? ouch. Can try to fix it for free :)

You can use this to copy any files off laptop she wants to rescue - make sure to virus scan them before putting them back on a PC: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/

If you can save files, I would just clean install win 10 and start afresh. On another PC, download the Windows 10 media creation tool and use it to make a win 10 installer on USB

change boot order so USB is first, hdd second
boot from installer
Follow this handy guide: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

when asked for licence , click "I don't have a key" and win 10 will continue install and...

If laptop had win 7 on it before, there is a chance Win 10 will want you to wipe all the partitions and leave unallocated space to install onto - if it warns about GPT just wipe all the drives and click next

That should fix it. I would also install a better AV like Bitdefender Free or Comodo internet Security to protect friend in future.
