Hi, i am having a problem with my pc. my pc won't detect my GPU if more than 2gb ram are inserted! if i insert only one 2gb ram, it detects the GPU just fine. Weird thing is, the GPU still outputs video, even if my pc doesn't detect the GPU.

Specs:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Service Pack 1
Motherboard: ECS 945GCT-M2/1333
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM DDR2 Kingston(6400) <--Could the different brand be the problem?
Other Uninserted Memory: 2048MB RAM DDR2 VGEN(6400) (You probably haven't heard of this brand)
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
GPU: Nvida GTX 550 TI(ECS)
PSU: 500W E-PRO (You probably haven't heard of this brand too)

If i insert my other GPU, which is an AMD Radeon HD 5570(PowerColor), my pc detects the GPU just fine, even with 4 gb ram.

Any idea what's causing the problem?

Solution

then most likely it is a power issue

I looked at windows device manager, when i plugged in the second ram, the gtx 550 ti isn't listed on the device manager anywhere. but, when i pull it back out, the gpu is there again. However, if i use a low power card, such as the HD 5570, i can use both ram just fine.

Both of them work. I tested it one by one. Also, i only have 2 dimm slots.

not necessarily, garbage power supplies often lie about their wattage
