Hello all! I'd like to start off by saying that I know nothing about computers, absolutely nothing, which is why I'm here, looking for help from people who do.

My problem is that I have this old computer that has been sitting around collecting dust for years, and I decided to put it to use. The issue is that the monitor doesn't detect the computer. If it matters, the computer also doesn't detect the keyboard and the mouse? It turns on, and what seems to be the fan appears to be working. I'm thinking maybe it's got something to do with the cable connecting the computer and the monitor? or maybe it's something to do with inside the computer itself.

Any suggestions on what might be the problem and what I should do?

What exactly is the time difference between these components? The components my just be too old. If you can tell me the name of the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, I could try to find the drivers for them.

Oh woops didn't mean to click on that solution thing sorry.

I'm not too sure how to check the models, but they're all Dell. I assume they all came together in one package. The computer's model I think is called XPS 420.

I should've probably said this in the original post, but I am using a laptop to post here, I think it's called HP g6-2000.

Well, you need to run it on the computer with the problem. I'm guessing that you ran it on the laptop because you told me about it now, and also that error message. You may need a monitor and at least a mouse that work with the computer to actually do this. Otherwise I'm not sure there's much that you can do. If there's no way to actually interact with the computer your best shot would be to take it to a local PC shop to see what they can do.

Yeah, I can't think of any way to work with the computer. I'll take it to a local PC shop, thanks for your effort!
