PC Won't Let Me Remove Media Card Reader

A few months ago, I bought a Broway BW-P3056A media card reader (which features a PCIE powered set of 4 USB 3.0 ports) for my Windows 8 machine. I believe it was a plug and play install, but quite the opposite for removal. I tried to remove it to make room for a new graphics card, but the computer has become dependent on it being installed to even turn on. Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried consulting Google, but haven't found anything yet.

Have you tried clearing the motherboard's CMOS?

Oh, yeah...I haven't tried clearing the CMOS yet. I will do that when I get a chance and see if it works.
