pc wont recognize my usb

hi, i recently build my first ever pc. but it wont read my usb when i plug it in, it rads my kyboard and mouse. the usb wont even show up on device manager or anything.
i have windows 7
asus mobo
usb 3.0 and 2 (tried through both)

Have you tried that drive in another system? If it works in another system, you may need to install the latest drivers for your motherboard/chipset. Also be sure to push Windows updates. System specs would be nice including OS version/edition.

ya the usb works in my laptop, just not my pc
specs: windows 7 pro
i7-6600k
asus z170-a
2x4gb corsiar ram

ive installed all updates so im very confused as to what to try next 🙁

Hello... 1) Have you changed any security settings in Windows OS from default?
2) What size and brand is the USB stick?
3) Is it a USB1 USB2 USB3 stick?
4) Does your BIO's identify the USB stick?

i have installed a free antivirus called avira, it was apparently the best on e available
its a hp 8gb usb 2.0 stick. ive also tried another stick that i got from my university which also works on my laptop but not pc
i dont know about BIOS though
i have also done all winows updates

If you just built your PC go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and grab all the latest driver updates.

Even though Windows may say it's up to date in the control panel applet>windows update, it doesn't mean it has fully updated. Force it to check for more updates by clicking on "check for updates" While that's going...Right-click on Computer and select "Manage." Navigate to Storage>Disk management. Does the drive show there?

ok there was more windows updates, and also driver updates for my motherboard! some stuff that wasn't working such as my mouse scroll button has began to work so not sure which solution fixed the problem, hopefully all the small problems i had have worked

Good to hear
