[SOLVED] PC won't recognize vg248 monitor, stuck on pnp monitor

How can I force my pc to recognize the vg248 144 hz monitor I have installed and to stop referring to it as a PnP 60 hz monitor?

Currently the device manager refers to it as a pnp monitor, and the nvidia control panel only allows 60 hz in both the ultra HD and PC settings. I am using an HDMI cable, but the vg248 is 144hz compatible with it and my 1660 super nvidia card. So the cable shouldn't be an issue. In any case, my device manager refuses to download the appropriate drivers (still using the default ones from 2006). I have updated my graphics card drivers, I even used a tool to remove all drivers before reinstalling them. I read online that the graphics card drivers should make the monitor recognizable, but it's not. The vg248 monitor doesn't have drivers that I can download from ASUS website, so until I can solve this I'm stuck with the 2006 drivers that only allow me to run a 60 hz pnp monitor. I'm currently running dual monitors, and I have an old dell that's being recognized in the device manager, which I think is odd, since the better monitor is not. My Windows is all up to date, and none of my other drivers need updates, I used driver booster to check that to. I also tried unpluggin the monitor and uninstalling it from the device manager.

Would really appreciate any advise anyone has! I'm not super good with tech. Thank you very very much.

Well depends which model it is, "VG248" is a whole family. Which one do you have, VG248QE, VG248QZ, VG248QG?
I have the vg248QE, but I'm not really sure what this means in terms of cables/hz. I ran it at 144 hz previously :((((

And to the other post nvida control panel only allows a mas of 60 hz in the 1080p sections for both PC and Ultra HD

I have a VG248QE and the HDMI port is not capable of 1080p@144hz. You have to use DisplayPort or dual link DVI for 1080p@144hz.

Alright I'll buy one and see how it goes. Thanks a lot for the input. I find it strange that the lack of a display port cable toggles the recognition of the monitor off. It ought to still recognize it as a vg248qe as a opposed to the pnp monitor.

Mine is also recognized as a generic PNP monitor in device manager(always has been) and works just fine with 1080p@144hz with either DP or DL DVI.
