PC won't start unless I take out a memory stick and put it in again.

I get put in a boot loop with no post unless I take out one of my two memory sticks, start the PC, put it back in, and start. I have no clue why this is happening.

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-GAMING 3
RAM: G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB (2 x 4GB)

Hi,

Have you got any other DDR3 sticks (240 pin) to try? You've kind of answered your own question: you RAM is bad.

Download MemTest (on another PC obviously) and stick it on a USB stick; boot the PC from it and test it for a few hours. It will most likely tell you your RAM has failed the tests.

I have some proprietary 10 and 2 GB sticks from an old PC. Will that work?

Yeah, just try with 2GB, is the 10GB stick a single stick or multiple sticks? If they are multiple different sticks, they will not work in dual channel, which will cause all sorts of problems. They should work though, at least the 2GB one.

I have one 10 GB stick and one 2 GB stick.

They both came from the same pre-built system.

Okay, do that then. Never heard of a single 10GB stick (prebuilt systems lol) but anyway, I diagress. Just put the 2GB stick in, it's only for testing. If it boots up, get some new RAM, or do an RMA if the RAM is still in warranty. How old is the PC?

Well, I just built the PC a couple of months ago. I didn't get any any warranty with the RAM.

You didn't get any warranty with the RAM? I am talking about the RAM in your system, not the RAM from the prebuilt PC; if you didn't get a warranty with your RAM, where the hell did you buy it from? Some computer part swap meeting? Or used? Never buy RAM used. Just too risky.

I jus found out that the RAM works when it's in single channel, but not in dual channel. Is the preformacr drop from double to single really that big? I've heard mixed opinions on it and I don't know if I can be bothered to send it back.

You won't really notice any difference. What RAM does not work in dual channel? You may have a bad board. If the DIMM slots are bad, these can lead to BSODs and all sorts of troublesome intermittent issues.

Are you sure it's the board? It only recently started happening

I used to have this same board and I sent it back because it started to have this problem. So I think it may be the RAM since it's happening again. I'm not sure why it just happened out of nowhere though
