when my 0,5 ghz overclock became unstable, i started to up the voltage 0,05 volts at a time. with each volt increase my computer became more stable until i reached ~1,5 volts. then my computer powered on for only half a second before shutting down. i tried resetting the cmos and replacing my 8350 with my old x6 1055t.
i also put my 8350 in my other pc and it didn't turn on, allthough this is likely due to something else.

If your VRM won't support the voltage you selected then it will fail the BIOS power test and shut down. One approach is to rest the BIOS to it's default settings with a jumper, or remove the MB battery, and start over. The other is to install heatsinks on the VRM transistors if they don't already have them and hope it solves your problem. I've also cut the blue PWM wire to the fan for maximum cooling but that usaully only helps if it runs for a few seconds This has bought me enough time to reset things. AMD CPUs are much more sensitive to temperature than Intels from the same era. Maybe if you let it get completely cold it will run long enough to fix it.

any other ideas.
