Pc wont turn on after ram upgrade?

So I just changed my ram, where it asked me to enter setup, I entered it, browsed around in the bios but didn't change anything. I hit escape and then save changes. After that the PC immediately turned itself off and now won't boot. What has happened?!

So I've fiddled with the wires and the system now boots, it asked me to enter bios or load default values, I entered bios, exited and it turned itself off again. Is there something in the bios I HAVE to change to configure my ram correctly?

Update to your latest reply. It sounds like you will need to set the proper clocks/timings/voltages. Get them from the manufacturer's site or packaging(most don't list them though). Check the memory settings for the XMP profiles also.

The quick answers are:

1. Stick not properly inserted-they take a substantial amount of force-too much and break the board-too little and they won't seat make proper contact
2. Bad Stick-if your using 4 or more try in pairs to find the ones that work
3. BIOS/MOBO settings may not be compatible with stick stock specs(some ram will operate at different clocks but not all). If you are able to get it to POST then manually set the timings/voltages to the ram manufacturer specs. Most modern MOBO's will self adjust but there's always the unique flavor issue.
4. Broke contact on MOBO. Worst case scenario. Occasionally can be repaired but usually you have to get a new one.

First steps I would do are to put the old ones back in. If it still doesn't turn on then check your manual to reset the board. Its usually a jumper but some have a button. Be very careful with this. If you have any custom AHCD/Raid settings you will have to reapply them before the system will fully boot again. If you mess this step up you can destroy a raid. If you have any custom OC settings then a reset will likely get rid of them too.

A quick search showed your not the only having these kinds of issues with these sticks. More than a few in August alone on Toms.

Try XMP profile 1. Make sure the voltage is set to 1.5v for both slots. Make sure BIOS is correctly reporting the right speeds for these (1600mhz?) and the correct size.
