pc won't turn on unless I reset the bios and hit f2 to continue

I recently bought a used MSI H61MU-E35(B3) and an i5 5470
.
everything else in the system were parts in my pc but I wanted to upgrade, I replaced the CMOS battery, the PSU is brand new, I suspect its a bios issue but I already tried updating the BIOS twice to see if that was the problem. every time the pc turns off I have to reset the BIOS.

I know you replaced the CMOS battery but it's the ONLY thing that makes sense.

I'd say either this battery is bad (unlikely) or the associated hardware to maintain the settings is not working.

So if the battery itself is not the problem it doesn't sound fixable.

so I got a replacement motherboard and I'm running into the same problem except this time its registering my keyboard in the bios(it didn't do that before) now when the computer restarts I am left with a blank screen but my rgb keyboard is lighting up which again never happened before. I think it may be a compatibility issue or maybe I need to reinstall windows as the computer seems working and trying to boot but the screen is blank.

Okay, I'm CONFUSED as you used the word "restarts" so are you able to boot into Windows at all?

If you do manage to boot Windows but then have issues after a RESTART then this has nothing to do with Windows unless Windows is somehow altering the BIOS which seems unlikely though it's not impossible.

I would at this point contact MSI Tech Support.

I tried contacting MSI tech support but I either cannot get ahold of them and call back later or get an automated message telling me to ask support through the website, the problem with that is the board is used and they require the part to be registered

so just now have I identified the problem, this entire time it was a VGA to DisplayPort adapter that had been degrading over time that was the source of my issues
