PC wont turn on when video card is plugged in

Hi, I had a pc a couple of years ago which I used mainly for gaming but unfortunately the power supply stopped working recently. I was gifted an old computer by a friend which was empty in the sense that it had no video/graphics card or RAM chips. I thought I could simply remove the graphics card and RAM chips (8gb each) and slot them into the new pc and all would be well but that was not the case as the PC would not power on although my friend had shown me previously that it worked perfectly before giving it to me. I thought maybe it may have something to do with the drivers for the graphics card not being installed on the new pc? I could be wrong but that is my best guess, only problem is I have no idea how to get hold of the drivers for the graphics card that I have. Any help/advice would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Let's get all the specs, including the GPU involved and the exact power supplies. We are not sitting at your old or new PC and you have to act as our eyes, ears, and hands; we can't get information about your PCs from clairvoyance! Just knowing that some GPU in some old PC isn't working when plugged into some new PC isn't enough information to give any kind of educated guess.
