I upgraded my motherboard ram and cpu last night and the first thing i did after installing windows and drivers (i believe i installed the motherboard drivers properly) was i ran a benchmark on mw2 on my old build i ran at 130-150fps with a 30% CPU bottleneck. On my new build with same settings i only get 110-120fps with a 99% gpu bottleneck. It also takes longer for the pc to start up and programs to open plus all my other games have a worse fps then before. Did i do something wrong with the upgrade

How are you measuring these bottlenecks?

Since it is a new install of everything you need to confirm you had the exact same settings.

Windows 11? You should have this for the E-cores if you want it to work properly.

12900k is going to consume a lot more power if you let it, so it is probably running hotter. You need to take a look at clock speeds and temperatures.

You also went from reasonable DDR4 3200 memory to what would be on the lower end of DDR5. So memory latency might be hurting you. Confirm XMP is enabled.

Not really sure the idea behind this upgrade. 11700K is pretty close to top marks, I would expect a very minor minimum frame rate increase on most games. Older titles trying to achieve maximum FPS is where there would be some noticeable improvements. Higher end games will remain GPU bound depending on your settings.

Why not a 13700k? Basically the same as a 12900k but with more cache.
