Hello!

What I hope is a quick question. I'm trying to extend the useful life of my desktop and am running into RAM issues when using modelling programs. Currently I have (bought in 2009):

Motherboard: EVGA X58 SLI LE Motherboard LGA 1366, Intel X58, SATA, SLI Ready, Triple Channel DDR3 support, RAID, Hyperthreading support
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 Processor BX80601920 2.66GHz, LGA 1366, 4.8GT/s QPI, 8MB L3 Cache, QuadCore, HyperThreading, Bloomfield, Retail
Ram: Corsair XMS3 Tri Channel 6GB PC10666 DDR3 Memory 1333MHz, 6144MB (3 x 2048)

This Motherboard has 6 slots so I have 3 empty ones. I happen to have a single stick of:

4GB 1Rx8 PC3L - 12800U (HP Part Number: 698650-154)

Can I mix this into the 4th slot and will it run?

Thanks,

Solution
You can try it and see how it does. PC3L is compatible with PC3 so it should work well.

Also, you can look into if swapping the processor over to a xeon will open the doors to using ecc reg memory which is much cheaper at $1/gb or under. You could then easily load it up with 6x8 for 48GB of ram.
