PCH Running hot

As per my sig I have an ASUS Z270E Mobo.

I'm going to assume the PCH is that piece on the lower right hand corner with the heatsink.

My question is why does it always run much hotter than other components?

Would it be because the 1080 vents directly on it? Even under no load though, the PCH still sits no lower than 40c. Will this effect performance? Is there a way to cool this better or make it cooler?

Just testing my new B250, and my PCH sits at 39 even at idle, and I don't have GPU installed yet. So I guess it's normal ...
(My mobo software shows where exactly each temp sensor is located, so check if Asus has similar software)

I could just look at the tech specs on their website.

Just curious why it sits at such a high temp, and if there's any real performance issues that can happen if it does stay hot.
If there is, how can it be cooled better?

The thermal trip point for the Intel Z270 PCH is 127°C. You're not even anywhere near that limit.

Alright that answers that. So, as far as cooling, is it necessary? Does it have recommended running temps like a cpu (80c)?
Should I attempt a cooling solution if it's sitting beyond a certain threshold? If so, what would that be (I guess this ties into the question above this)

Additional cooling shouldn't be necessary since it's only a 6 Watt device. The passive cooling, provided by ASUS, is more than sufficient to keep the chip well within temperature specs during normal operation.

It shouldn't be getting anywhere near 127°C. Somewhere around or below 50°C is what I would expect. Maybe with poor case ventilation and a graphics card dumping warm air on it it might reach 80°C.

Alright that's all fair information. I'm looking for the extreme "What if"

What I'm saying is, is it like the CPU core model I have where I should be concerned if it is breaking 80c?

I mean the cpu throttles at much higher than the max operating recommended temp.
