Dear all,

Source:
I have a serious problem with my pc. I recently aqquired an Intel Prescott cpu and were therefor able to use my ram and motherboard fully (ref.:sig.)

Problem:
After two hours (or more 😉 ) playing Far Cry or six hours (or more) playing Neverwinter Nights, the pc becomes a turtle when the LAN adapter crashes (it says "cable disconnected"), the soundcard mutes with a pitch-'click', the second graphicscard (pci-based) also dies.

After the windows has finally recognized the "I know" that the network-cable is "disconnected" I can use my system again af full speed, but with no "pci-based" features.

Occasionally the crash inflicts the stranges thing I have ever seen in winxp. The system idle process is at 99%, BUT the cpu usage is on ~50%... quite a pain, but still; almost laughable.

Another annoying thing is that the overclocking feature simply has disappeared from my bios menu. I have tried to re-upgrade the bios, but there is no change.

Considerations:
1. Since I got my new cpu, I have not reinstalled windows.
2. Due to my previous cpu, I have never used my mainboard or ram to their full extent.
3. It could be just about anything that is causing this; including my headache 😉

Has anyone got any clue as of WTF? is happening??

Yours Sinful, Mopeygoth

Hi Endyen,

My case has A LOT of fans in it... it has also got heatspreaders or heatsinks on all "hot-running" chips/devices. Fay Cry gets my cpu up to around 55c with a medium level fan-speed, 61c on low, and 48c on high. Approx values of course 😉

thanks for the shot, but I doubt it is the heatissue.

A sidethought... would the "thermal-saving-downthrottle" on the cpu cause these components to crash? (hypothetically)

UPDATE: I reinstalled winxp and most of the issues were gone, at least the gaming ones so far checked.

I also set my pc to run 3dmark03 at a 25 times test repeat before I went to work this morning, it was fine when I came home.. just diaplaying the 5741 3dmarks and the lan and sound were fine.

Problem solved... Kinda embarressing.. it was Fast Writes! I have never ever before experienced problems using FW, would never have guess that it would become an issue just because of a cpu upgrade, well.. noted. Back to Fay Cry.
