PCI-E 2.0 Vs. PCI-E 2.0x16

I want to buy a 2 GB graphics card.The website said that it requires PCI-E 2.0x16 slot.I have a 1 GB graphics card which works on PCI-E 2.0 slot.Will the 2GB graphics card work on PCI-E 2.0 slot?
