Question PCI-E 6-Pin Connector Issues

Hello all! I had a (probably dumb) question pertaining to power being supplied to my graphics card. I am using an EVGA 600w 80 plus PSU and powering an NVIDIA GTX 1070 SC. I noticed that the two pci-e 6-pin connectors are on the same cable running from the power supply. The problem with this, however, is that the cable can reach the graphics card's power port but not the pci-e power port on the motherboard. If my graphics card is the only thing plugged into the PCI-E ports on my motherboard, do I still have to supply power to the motherboard PCI-e slot since I am powering the GPU? If I do, any suggestions on how to make this fit? Thanks for the help in advance!
