Hello, I currently have a stock xps 630i desktop, and i am looking at placing a HD 5970 graphics card in the system, but i am worried about the power, it has a 750 watt power supply, but it only has 2 6 pin plugs for the PCI-E power (currently being used by 2 9800gt in SLI). I was wondering if it is possible to use a HDD power cable or something? adapters from 6-8 pin?
I was hoping that i could use a HDD one with adapter or something, so i can still use 1 9800gt as a PPU... Or will i have to buy a new power supply? 🙁 trying to save money.
Any help would be great.

Cheers (email me on andyandy488@hotmail.com)

it should work! i hope... haha

any last pointers?

also note that the 9800gt only needs one 6 pin cable... so i use one for the 9800, and then use the molex adapter to make another one, and then convert the last 6pin PCI-E into an 8 pin.

(the only difference between 6 pin adapters and 8 pin is the amount of grounding it has)

You do not need an adapter. Like nomad said, the only difference between 6 pin and 8 pin plugs is the number of ground wires. Each has 3 yellow hot wires. The number of ground wires will not affect the amount of power that the plug can provide.

ok ... you can go for it, it will get your job done..
