pci-e generation 2 same as pci-e 2.0

I'm very confused. I got a hand-me-down computer and the specs on it say it has 5 pci-e generation 2 slots. I bought a pci-e 2.0 video card for it only to discover the slots in the computer are much shorter. Is PCI-e 2.0 different than PCI-e Generation 2?

PCIe 2.0 and PCIe Gen 2 are the same thing.
However, there are different sizes. Graphics cards use PCIex16 lanes, your lanes are probably x8 or x4.
