Hey I just recently got myself a second evga gtx 980 sc and I installed it without any problems. I used 2 pci-e cables to connect them, and thats where my question comes in: do i need a sli bridge to get the full power of both my gpu's or does connecting them with pci-e work just as good? Some guys from a electrical supply store told me that modern motherboards do all the connecting so a sli bridge is not necessary anymore, but i just wanted some confirmation.

Specs (if needed):

Motherboard: asus Z 87-K
Gpu: 2 evga gtx 980 sc (one bought right after release and one a week ago)
Cpu: intel i7 4770k
Psu: Corsair Professional Series AX1500i

Thanks In advance

Solution
You will need a SLI bridge with GTX 980 if you running them in SLI and a SLI supported motherboard.
The electrical supply store may be referring to the R9 290 and R9 290X and R9 285 which are the cards that no longer requires Crossfire bridges to run in crossfire as it is now done through the pcie.
