PCI-E risers cause problems?

Hey guys, ive bought myself a new computer, and im mounting the graphics card away from everything else, hence the use of pci-e risers. Although, i cant get any signal from the graphics card, the bios doesnt detect it either.
Is it a problem with the risers? or is the graphics card DOA? its water cooled so i cant tell about the fans.

plug the card straight into the MB and test it. There are apparently lots of low quality riser cards/cables out there so chances are high you simply have a garbage one.
