PCI-E x1 blocked by graphics card?

I wanna buy a sound card for my computer as the onboard sound on my Sabertooth 990fx is broken, and I am too lazy to send it in to be repaired, as they said it would take about 2 months. But heres my problem, all the higher-end sound card's I find use the tiny PCI-E connection, which I assume is the PCI-E x1 connection. Is there any way to solve this?

Just put the video card in the other white 16x slot?

If you have any PCIe slots left for example an extra PCIe x16 slot, you can use that as well, no problem.
