Question pci express 2 vs 3 graphics compatibility

can i use an rx 480 (for example) in a pci express 2 motherboard? what will i be sacrificing?

Yes, PIC-Express is backwards compatible. You can use the card on a version 2.0 motherboard. There isn't a very huge performance difference, between those two, and in real world gaming, few extra frames won't be noticeable.

In short, there won't be any performance loss. Which MOBO are you having ? Also, list your other PC specs.
