Pci express 3.0 question

is pci express 3.0 backward compatible with pci express 2.0 ?

i'm thinking of buying a motherboard with two pci express 3.0 slots and i'm wondering if i would be able to run two pci express 2.0/2.1 graphic cards with it

short answer is yes,and you can also run the new 3.0 graphics cards with 2.0 slots
