So today i bought the tp-link gigabit pci express card model tg-3468 and installed it. I took the files for the driver and installed it as well. On device manager it also shows “gigabit pci express network adapter #2”. I thought everything was working but i dont have internet. I have windows 10 and i dont know what the problem is. Could someone please help?

I have a gigabyte ga-h11pm-a motherboard. The reason i got one is cause my other ethernet port got fried from a lightning storm

How did you determine that it was the motherboard NIC that failed? Given that your new NIC isn't working either, it looks like it may have been something else that was damaged. Do you have another device that you could plug into the same ethernet port on your router as you currently have your PC plugged into?

Sorry whats the motherboard NIC (im not too good with these things). And would an xbox work??

NIC = network interface controller. Often used synonymously with LAN adapter, ethernet adapter, etc. Basically I was referring to the ethernet port on your motherboard.

And yeah, an Xbox would work fine. Plug it into the same ethernet port on your router as your PC is currently plugged into, and make sure it's set to use a wired internet connection not wireless. If you can connect to the internet on your Xbox your modem/router is working properly, and we can be sure the issue is something with your PC.

Ok so while you were gone i plugged my xbox into the ethernet and the light on the router didnt light up. I dont know how to make it to use wired connection so i just plugged the ethernet in. Does this say anything?

I just tested it with my apple tv and that didnt work either. I think it might be the router thats messed up. Is it possible that the ethernet ports got messed up on the wifi but the wireless wifi still works??

Yeah, I think it would be possible that wifi would still work even if the ethernet ports don't. I think the lights on the router ethernet should be lighting up as soon as you plug something in. Reboot the router if you haven't recently. Probably won't fix it but can't hurt. You can also try doing a factory reset of the router, but only if you feel comfortable reconfiguring it afterwards (usually not that difficult).

Sounds like something i could try :). 2 questions exactly how would i factory reset the router and are there any videos to follow for configuring it afterward?

There may be a button on the router (likely a little recessed one that you have to use a pin to press). If not, you'll have to log into the router and look around the settings to find a reset option.

There are probably videos out there, but it sort of depends on how your internet is setup up. If you have a separate modem, then you may not need to do anything. Although I always set the name and password for the wireless network, and set the router login password.

The problem is, I think it's recommended to do router setup using a wired connection. I don't think I've ever tried to wirelessly connect to a router immediately reset, because I don't know what the wireless name/password would be. In your case, if it turns out the ethernet ports are busted, you may not be able to connect to the router at all. You should check for a sticker somewhere on the router (probably the bottom) that lists the default SSID(network name)/wireless password, because then at least you should be able to connect to your wireless network.

Before you do this, just keep in mind that if you reset the router you may not be able to connect to the internet at all (wired or wireless) until the router is set up properly again.

Oh ok. Ill try it out and watch some videos. Thanks for all your help I appreciate it

Is there anyway i could contact you if it doesnt work?

Do you have anywhere else that you could access the internet? Or do you have a phone with mobile data? If so, you can always post back here.

Also, I forgot to ask, did you try all the other ethernet ports on the router to see if they work?

To be honest, if this problem happened immediately after a power surge/lightning strike, I'd say there's a pretty decent chance there's a hardware issue that you won't be able to fix. Something to keep in mind.

Oh ok. And i have tried all ports many of times with no succes. And a hardware problem with my router or computer??
