Im planning to replace my Radeon HD 4850, but not sure whats the difference between :

PCI Express 3.0 x16 , PCI Express 2.0 x16 , PCI Express 1.0 x16 ?

Lets say I picked this HD 7750 card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150612

It has PCI Express 3.0 x16 interface, I believe my Radeon HD 4850 and mobo ACER MCP73PV NVIDIA MCP73 have PCI Express x16 version 1?

Wont I be limited to use HD 7750 card because of that? I mean wont it be weaker than my 4850? or PCI Express doesnt really mean anything?

thanks

The final answer to the controversial PCIe x16 version compatibility.
PCI 1 is for things like wireless adapters.

PCI-E 2 and 3 are for things like graphics cards. There's not a big difference between the 2 and it's explained here: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Impact-of-PCI-E-Speed-on-Gaming-Performance-518/

so I got PCI-E 2, not 1 then ?

Also, is there any better one slot card to upgrade than 7750?

before you drop the hammer and buy the gpu check to see what video cards will rork without any issue on nfoce 7100 chipsets. the other issue is the size of your power supply. make sure it sized to the new gpu. some of the older pc you cant replace the power supply becuase they dont use the same pin outs as standard power supplys.

hmm, interesting. So I have to get the tower to the shop and check there and look at Nvidia instead of Ati. Thank you.

smorizio, the power is fine, if it handles the hungry 4850. Its 400 watt.
