PCI Express X4 to X16 Adapter

do you think a (PCI Express X4 to X16 Adapter) will work if you have a gtx 460 or hd 6850 in your pci-e x16 slot and you are looking for real crossfire or SLI,but the other slot is x4 pci-e slot ?? 😱

All an adapter would do is let you plug in a n x16 card into an x4 slot. the card would still be limited to the x4 bandwidth.

most 4x slots are full length and dont require any adaptor. http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=8139 like this one, it has a 16x and 4x slot, both full length. you dont really see the shorter 4x slots, i cant think of a motherboard off the top of my head that even has one.
