So hello,

I have an I7 8700k and i saw that it has "only" 16 PCI Lanes.

Now my question is:

My GPU is in the x16 Slot, would it still work to use an extension card that needs PCI lanes, and will it effect the Performance of the GPU?

Thank you

Solution
Your motherboard has one PCIE x16 slot for graphics cards.
Second x16 PCIE slot operates at x4 mode and shares bandwidth with x1 slots.

So using capture card will not impact operation of graphics card.
But when using x4 capture card in second x16 slot, you should not use any x1 PCIE slots, because this will switch second x16 slot into x1 operation mode.

If you intend to use x1 capture card, then this doesn't matter. You can use it in second x16 slot or any x1 slot. It will not impact anything.

Elgato 4k60 Pro is PCIE x4 card,
Elgato HD60 Pro is PCIE x1 card.
This depends on motherboard being used and PCIE slot configuration.

For example - motherboard may have 2 x16 PCIE slots. When one slot is used, it operates in x16 mode. When 2 slots are used, they switch to x8/x8 operation mode.
Also motherboard may have separate pcie lanes (not dirrectly connected to cpu). Those usually are x1, x2, x4 PCIE slots, but can also be x16 physical slot with less available connections.

So, to answer your question - would need to know motherboard model name, pcie devices you're trying to connect and slots to use.

My motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus gaming 3 and I will probably want to use a capture card.

Well didnt know there were more aorus versions xD. I have the GIGABYTE Z370 AORUS Gaming 3.
And I dont know which capture card I want to use yet, can you give me ones that will defenelty work? I know there are some from elgato or so.
